#1

Two big upsets in the Big East did little to lessen UConn's grip on the conference. Over 15,000 people attended the season finale showdown between #1 UConn and #4 Rutgers. Home court advantage goes a long way in a rivalry game and UConn absorbed every bit of energy from their home fans to unleash a lightening storm on the visiting Scarlet Knights. During the last fifteen seasons, UConn has won 13 Big East regular season conference titles. Defense, defense, defense. The Huskies held the fourth ranked team in the nation to 46 points. Earlier in the season, Epiphanny Prince scored 33 points against UConn. Last night she was held to five points. Rutgers' leading scorer, Essence Carson had 15 points. On offense, Renee Montgomery scored 21 points and freshman phenom Maya Moore added 19. Their combined point totals were six less than Rutgers' entire offensive total for the night.
Connecticut is definitely the best team in the nation at this point. Tennessee can eliminate the Huskies inside game with Candace Parker. Shannon Bobbitt can stop Montgomery, but Tennessee doesn't have an answer for Moore. Who does? North Carolina, that's who. Latoya Pringle can neutralize Moore, but I think UConn can beat the Tar Heels inside with Tina Charles.

St. John's came up big against #9 Notre Dame, beating the fighting Irish 61-51.
Syracuse defeated #14 West Virginia, 73-51.
